Amazon Prime now offers 20 per cent off all new video games

Amazon has announced a rather awesome new perk for US-based members of its all-encompassing Amazon Prime subscription service – a whopping 20 per cent discount on all new video games.

The huge incentive applies during the pre-order period and in the two weeks following the release of the game.

The deal (via Polygon) applies only applies to physical copies, so no digital download codes, but is likely to see massive uptake from gamers seeking to save on new games.

The discount will be applied at checkout and applies only to orders fulfilled by Amazon.

For example, clicking through the Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End pre-order page sees the $59.00 asking price reduced by $11.01 (pre-tax) to just $48.99.

Users who have already pre-ordered games like Uncharted 4, which is out on April 29, will also receive the discount when their card is charged for the game.

Rather than a limited time offer, this appears to be a permanent addition to Amazon Prime benefits, which already include guaranteed free delivery of games on the advertised release date.

The discount will also apply during free Prime trials, so users will be able to sign up, get a discount on a new game and cancel without committing to the annual membership fee.

Beyond this physical game-only rule, the only other caveats rule out bundle purchases and limited edition releases.

Prime Members also get access to two-day delivery (next day in the UK) on thousands of products as well as access to a myriad of digital services like Prime Instant Video, Prime Music and the Kindle Lending Library.

Let’s hope Amazon extends this particular perk to UK-based gamers before the most anticipated games of 2016 go on sale.
