Amazon has just announced its second annual Prime Day, and the number of deals looks set to dwarf the online retailer’s Black Friday efforts.
Of course, Amazon made similar claims with the inaugural Prime Day. This year, however, Amazon assures us that Prime Day will be “the biggest Amazon event ever.”
On July 12, Amazon Prime members in US, UK, Spain, Japan, Italy, Germany, France, Canada, Belgium, and Austria will be able to pick from more than 100,000 deals spread across nearly all of Amazon’s departments and categories.
It’s not just about range, either. Following last year’s record sales, Amazon says it has “dramatically increased the inventory behind many deals,” so there should be fewer frustrating ‘sold out’ notifications when you try and click those Buy buttons.
In the US alone, Amazon claims that it has almost double the number of TV units prepared compared to Black Friday and Cyber Monday combined.
Interestingly, Amazon provides a brief rundown of some of the most popular Amazon Prime Day categories for each participating nation. In the UK, the top deals last year seem to have come in video games, headphones and power toothbrushes, whilst in the US it was all about toys, mobile device cases and pet products.
Make of that what you will.

Besides the big day itself, Amazon will be offering daily ‘countdown deals’ for Prime members in the lead-up, from July 5 through to July 11.
If you’re not an Amazon Prime member, it’s worth noting that Prime Day will be open to those on a free trial. If you or a member of your household hasn’t taken advantage of this yet, now would be an excellent time to sign up.
