Amazon preparing Snapdragon 805 Kindle Fire HDX?

Amazon could be preparing to launch a new Amazon Kindle Fire HDX tablet powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor.

According to a leaked benchmark test, Amazon could be looking to upgrade the existing Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 processor with the new Qualcomm CPU.

Currently, the 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HDX comes with a 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 2.2GHz processor, but the newest version could make the 805 upgrade.

The upgraded 8.9-inch model was spotted on the AnTuTu database with the new processor, 2GB of RAM and updated Adreno 420 GPU.

Aside from upgraded graphics and processor, the new Kindle Fire HDX model doesn’t offer much different from its predecessor.

It retains the impressive 8.9-inch 1600 x 2560p QHD resolution display, but running the latest Android 4.4.4 KitKat no doubt with the heavy Amazon Android UI.

The original 8-megapixel rear camera is still there, along with the 1-megapixel front-facing sensor for video calling and the like.

There’s no information on when Amazon could launch this revamped Kindle Fire HDX model. But if it’s already in benchmark testing phase it might not be too long until we see this tablet arrive in the online store.

Manufacturers are increasingly adopting this way of launching new devices, only offering incremental upgrades on the existing models. We assume they are hoping to catch those consumers who didn’t invest in the previous generation.

One such manufacturer is Sony, who has starting releasing flagship smartphones in a 6 month launch cycle, but with only slight hardware tweaks between models. Take a look at the Sony Xperia Z1 and Sony Xperia Z2 for example, with the Xperia Z3 expected to offer more of the same in September.
