Just tweet a hashtag along with the Amazon product ID of the item you want to add to your basket, and bingo, it’s automatically added.
The idea is simple, a company tweets about its new product, and includes its Amazon product ID in the tweet, you can then reply or simply tweet that product ID with the hashtag #AmazonCart in the US or #AmazonBasket in the UK, and the product will appear in your basket. Only the UK and US are supported at the moment.
You’ll also need to make sure that you’ve linked your Amazon account with Twitter, which is a simple matter of visiting your account settings and following the instructions. Be warned though, Amazon will forever ask you to tweet about the mundane nonsense you’ve just coughed up for on your social accounts.
If your Tweet works, then you should get a reply from @MyAmazonUK telling you your product was added. We’ve tried it a couple of different ways now, and none has thus far worked.
For obvious reasons the service doesn’t work with 1-Click, so you’re not going to end up buying things via Twitter without any confirmation. Once you’ve sent the tweet though, you can simply head over to Amazon and confirm your purchase, and Bob’s your uncle, your shopping is complete.
The big downside to all this, of course, is that everyone can see what you’re buying so buying B005MR3IVO in this way might not be ideal, but for books and CDs it might add an interesting dynamic to your friends to see what you’re interested in. Perhaps Amazon could even let you use #AmazonWish to add products to your wishlist for people to buy you at Birthdays and Christmas.
