Amazon leaks a cheaper Echo Dot, but will it be coming to the UK?
Amazon appears to have leaked a new version of its Echo Dot speaker, which enables users to upgrade their speakers with Alexa voice commands.
In a tweet on Monday, the company announced a new model as almost half the $89.99 price of the original.
The now deleted tweet read: “Introducing the all-new Echo Dot. Add Alexa to any room — now for just $49.99.”
Although the link redirected users to a page showing a sold out 1st-gen product, it would seem to confirm a newer model is on the way.

It also pairs with Echo speakers to add Alexa functionality to other rooms in the house.
It’ll be interesting to see whether Brits are also offered access to the Echo Dot and Echo Tap if Amazon, as expected, finally brings the Echo to the UK tomorrow.
Available in the US since February 2015, Amazon finally looks like it’s ready for Alexa to spread her wings to new territories.
An event on Wednesday morning should see the devices arrive in the UK, Germany, Ireland and Austria according to reports.
The FT says the Echo will go on sale in the UK in October. All will be revealed tomorrow.
