Amazon hiring developers for its own PC game

Amazon has revealed that it is hiring for development of an ambitious new PC game.

The online retail company has taken several major steps into the games industry in recent times, but we haven't seen any substantial product from this beyond the odd mobile game.

Now Amazon has posted a call for new game developer recruits for a very special product. "We’re building a team of top talent for an ambitious new PC game project using the latest technology," reads the Gamasutra post.

"We believe that games have just scratched the surface in their power to unite players and will produce some of the future’s most influential voices in media and art," claims the company.

Around this time last year news emerged that Amazon had hired Portal co-creator Kim Swift and ex-Ubisoft Clint Hocking to design games for the new Amazon Game Studios.

Just a few months prior to that, Amazon acquired Double Helix, the developer behind the recent (and well received) Killer Instinct relaunch on Xbox One.

Then, in August, Amazon beat out strong competition from Google to acquire Twitch, the number one destination for live-streaming gaming video content.

More recently, in April of this year, it emerged that Amazon had signed a licensing deal with Crytek to make games using its CryEngine game engine. That's the engine that powers the visually opulent Crysis series.

Whatever Amazon is cooking up, we now know that it won't be 'just' another mobile game.
