While there are few who adore their gadgets more than we at TrustedReviews we applaud and back Amazon’s latest attempt to make one particular major change in our beloved industry…
Citing the a need for more ‘Frustration-Free Packaging’ the gigantic .com announced this week it has agreed deals for 19 best selling products from manufacturers such as Fisher-Price, Mattel, Microsoft and Transcend to have their products repackaged in more consumer friendly ways. Citing the likes of the horrendous blister packs used by so many companies (yes Logitech, we’re looking at you), Amzon CEO Jeff Bezos explained:
“”I think we’ve all experienced the frustration that sometimes occurs when you try to get a new toy or electronics product out of its package. It will take many years, but our vision is to offer our entire catalog (US-sic) of products in Frustration-Free Packaging. We’d like to thank Fisher-Price, Mattel, Microsoft and Transcend for working with us in this effort – we truly appreciate it.”
The drive will be taken internationally by Amazon next year with typical examples of the movement including easy-to-open recyclable cardboard boxes and envelopes and the elimination of oversized plastic clamshells for small products such as memory cards.
The first product to launch with Frustration-Free Packaging is the Fisher-Price ‘Imaginext Adventures Pirate Ship’, which Amazon claims “eliminates 36 inches of plastic-coated wire ties, 1,576.5 square inches of printed corrugated package inserts and 36.1 square inches of printed folding carton materials. Also eliminated are 175.25 square inches of PVC blisters, 3.5 square inches of ABS molded styrene and two molded plastic fasteners.”
And you just thought traditional packaging was horrible to open…
