Amazon Fire TV Stick comes to UK

Amazon has finally made its Fire TV Stick available to preorder in the UK.

The Amazon Fire TV Stick was first unveiled back in late October, when it received a US-only launch. Now it’s made its way to the UK.

It’s essentially a slimmed-down version of the full Amazon Fire TV box, and it looks and operates in much the same way as Google’s Chromecast or the Roku Streaming Stick.

The Amazon Fire TV Stick plugs directly into one of your TV’s HDMI ports, and offers access to Amazon’s library of movies, TV shows, music, apps, and games right on your TV. The whole app thing means that the device is another way to run the likes of Netflix, YouTube, and Spotify on your television set.

It comes packing a dual-core CPU, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of built-in storage. In relative terms, Amazon claims that the Fire TV Stick is six times more powerful than the Roku Streaming Stick, while it has four times the storage and twice the memory of Google’s Chromecast.

Meanwhile, dual-band, dual-antenna Wi-Fi one-ups the Chromecast and its single-band, single-antenna Wi-Fi.

The Amazon Fire TV Stick is available to preorder from Amazon UK now, and it costs just £35. It will actually be available on April 15.

What’s more, new paid-up Prime members can get the Amazon Fire TV Stick for just £19 if they sign up before Thursday.
