Amazon has announced its X-Ray feature is now available on your TV courtesy of Fire TV.
You’ll now be able to access the information-dispensing service if you’re using a Fire TV set top box or Amazon’s new Fire TV Stick.
But what is Amazon X-Ray? It’s an IMDb-powered platform that will give you insight into whatever’s on your TV screen.
So if you’re watching a movie and you can’t quite remember the name of an actor, you’ll be swiftly reminded who’s starring courtesy of X-Ray.
Similarly, if a catchy jingle evades your long-term memory function while watching tele, X-Ray will scour its databases to track down the song.
It’s an Amazon-exclusive partnership with IMDb, giving Prime Instant Video a leg up over Netflix.
“We’ve all been there: you’re sitting on the sofa, watching a favourite movie or TV show, and a familiar face enters the scene – but you can’t for the life of you remember who he is, or what other movies he’s been in,” explained Peter Larsen, Amazon’s Vice President of Devices.
“X-Ray solves this –
He added: “We think Amazon Fire TV customers are going to love this elegant experience on the big screen at home, and it’s just one simple click of the remote away.”

Aside from answering those essential viewing questions, X-Ray will also offload trivia and bloopers, making it a formidable TV viewing companion.
While X-Ray doesn’t work across all content, it’s available on thousands of titles. The feature will already be familiar to Prime Instant Video app users, who’ve had X-Ray for a while now.
The over-the-air software update for X-Ray is rolling out to Fire TV starting today.
