If you paid attention to Apple and Google’s TV-related announcements during September, you’ll have noticed one major streaming service was conspicuous by its absence.
Seeing as Prime Video is a direct companion to iTunes and Google Play, it’s hardly surprising, but Amazon isn’t going to stand for it.
The company says it will no longer sell the Apple TV or Google Chromecast after October 29.
Instead it is guiding customers towards streaming boxes friendlier to Prime, like the Roku, Xbox and PlayStation platforms… not to mention its own Fire TV.
An Amazon spokesperson told Bloomberg the decision wasn’t made out of spite, but to ensure customers aren’t confused.
“[O]ver the last three years, Prime Video has become an important part of Prime," the statement read.
“It's important that the streaming media players we sell interact well with Prime Video in order to avoid customer confusion. Roku, Xbox, PlayStation and Fire TV are excellent choices.”
While Chromecasts can stream Prime video in a roundabout way, Amazon is apparently seeking sales partners who’re all in on offering Prime.
