Alcatel has launched the Alcatel OneTouch Idol X+, the first octa-core smartphone destined for European markets.
Although Alcatel may not be the biggest name in the UK smartphone market, the specs sheet of the OneTouch Idol X+ may make you look twice at the French telecommunications company.
“The Idol range has gained a reputation for offering the best balance of features, performance and design. The Idol X+ continues this tradition and is set to surprise and delight with its image capture and display credentials”, said Dan Dery, CMO for Alcatel OneTouch.
The OneTouch Idol X+ features a 2GHz octa-core processor with 2GB of RAM and has a 5-inch Full 1080 x 1920p HD display that matches the Samsung Galaxy S4 and Sony Xperia Z1.
There’s 16GB of internal storage, but unfortunately the Idol X+ lacks a microSD card slot for expandability options.
In the rear is a 13-megapixel camera, with a 2-megapixel front-facing snapper capable of 1080p Full HD video recording.
Powered by a 2500mAh battery, the OneTouch Idol X+ runs the rather outdated Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and lacks 4G LTE compatibility. There’s Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 LE connectivity though.
All this is contained in a body just 7.9mm thick. To put this into perspective, that’s thinner than the HTC One and the same thickness as the Galaxy S4.
Hopefully the Idol X+ isn’t hampered by the rather sluggish navigation of the Alcatel UI or the cartoonish icons that could detract from the phone’s overall powerful specs.
