Aivvy Q headphones pick music for you based on your taste

Aivvy Q (pronounced “Ivy Q”) are the first headphones that learn your music taste and serve up tunes based on what you like.

There’s no need to connect to the internet or load up a streaming service. Aivvy Q sync to the cloud when you charge them and cache new songs for you. Take them out for a spin and you’ll discover all sorts of new tunes.

It learns based on your preferences. Tap the ear cup to ‘like’ a song and it’ll remember not only the song name and artist, but where you were when you liked it. The ear cup lets you perform other actions too. Swipe forward to skip a song, or back to rewind. Rotate it and you’ll switch between channels.

If you prefer to see what you’re listening to, just fire up the companion app, and it’ll tell you the current song and music channel.

There’s no syncing with a computer, no loading up playlists, no pricey streaming services to shell out for. Of course it all comes down to how good the recommendation engine is. And we won’t know that until we try it for ourselves.

All the tunes are CD quality or higher. The cans come in white, black or brown. The battery lasts 40 hours before needing a recharge, and the song will automatically pause when you take the headphones off.

It’s definitely a new idea, but it could be more promising as a standalone service. This style of headphones isn’t for everyone. Rather than limit its appeal, we’d like to see it as a rival to Spotify.

The cans can be yours for $249 (£169). They should ship in October.
