Travel locks aren't the best – we use them so infrequently, it's easy to forget the combination and be locked out of your luggage. AirBolt is a smart travel lock for the 21st century.
It talks to your phone over Bluetooth using an app. Push one button on the app, and you'll gain access to your luggage. You'll never be stranded without spare pants again.
If you lose your phone, or your battery dies halfway through your journey, you can unlock it using the app on someone else's phone too. So make sure your travel companion has downloaded the app before you set off.
Failing that, you can always program a combination on the AirBolt itself. But where's the fun in that?
It has other talents too. It can track your luggage using GPS, so should your bags go missing somewhere along a three-leg journey, you'll be able to track them down, even if the airline can't. It should help with getting your bags back too. Hopefully.
It'll alert you if you leave it behind too. Just set the distance, and as soon as you get further away it'll send you a notification that you've left your bag behind.
And don't worry about some heavy handed travel security bod ripping it open to check your luggage. It's fully TSA compliant, so their special TSA keys will work with it. That way, they can check your bag's contents and lock it back up after, as if it had never been touched. The app will tell you every time it's locked and unlocked, so you'll know if they have had a look.
It's raised almost $3,000 of a $50,000 goal, and has 44 days to go. It should ship in August.
