Adata brings USB Type-C and NVMe to the world of SSD

Adata has taken the opportunity of Computex to show off a vast range of new storage products, including new external SSDs using Type-C and the latest ultra-fast NVMe internal SSDs.

Similar to Intel’s much-lauded 750 SSD series, Adata’s latest speed champ uses NVMe, which is a new interface specifically designed for SSDs using the PCI-E bus.

This removes the bottleneck of the SATA standard which tops out at around 600MB/s and the result is that Adata’s new drive can run at 3GB/s.

We’re not sure on pricing or availability yet but with Intel’s 400GB 750 Series drive costinng around £300 we’d exect the Adata model to be similar.

Adata USB Type-C

Also on show was a host of new products with USB Type-C, including an external SSD and a rather neat reversal thumb drive.

The company also had a new more conventional SSD in the shape of the XPG SX930, which is a high-end MLC-based drive. With performance figures of.565 MB/s reads, up to 465 MB/s writes; and 4K random access performance of up to 80,000 IOPS reads with up to 70,000 IOPS writes, it’s well up there with the faster SSDs available.

Adata USB Type-C

We don’t have pricing or a release date yet but we do know it’s a 7mm drive and will come with a 5-year warranty.
