Adaptive Sabre Parts lets you make your own lightsaber

It’s a dream most of us have had since childhood, and it could soon be a reality. Yes, you could actually make your own lightsaber thanks to Adaptive Saber Parts.

It’s essentially a modular kit in the same vein as the Project Ara smartphone. Piece the bits together, and you can make a Jedi weapon that’s uniquely yours.

To start with, the firm offers over 100 metal parts in three different finishes, giving you a ton of possibilities. Each month, the firm will release a new expansion set.

Want to take the next step on from just a hilt and have a true working lightsaber you can actually duel with? The firm offers ‘plug and play’ no solder electronics kits that let you upgrade to a light-up blade. If you want the ultimate, go for the fully-functional hero level prop, with lights, motion detection and sound. Then prepare to run around the house waving it around like you’re 11 years old again.

They’re even hardwearing enough to withstand a proper Jedi battle, so you and a pal can whack them against each other to your heart’s content. “If you strike me down, I will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine” etc. Or, if you prefer, “I see your Schwarz is as big as mine“.

Prices start at $150 (£96) for the hilt only, and $225 (£144) for the hilt plus blade. If you want the whomp sound effects too – and who doesn’t? – it’ll set you back $350 (£224). A bargain, we think you’ll agree.

It’s passed its funding goal and will start shipping in November.
