According to a report obtained by IGN, Activision is developing a ‘fully-fledged’ Ghostbusters title for PS4 and Xbox One.

It seems Activision plans to release the game to coincide with the launch of the upcoming Ghostbusters sequel, which is due in July 2016.

The game will be separate from Activision’s LEGO Dimensions, which already features a Ghostbusters-themed level pack.

Terminal Reality’s 2009 Ghostbusters: The Video Game was a critical and commercial success, and Activision plans to capitalise on this fan following with the new film’s release.

The 2009 game was an immediate hit amongst fans, boasting the voice work of original cast members Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and Harold Ramis.

It is unknown whether the game will be a direct tie-in to the new film, or if it will feature its own unique characters and storyline.

The new Ghostbusters film, directed by Paul Feig, is set to for a July 15, 2016 release. It will feature an all-female cast including Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones and Kristen Wiig.

We’d love to play as the girls in the upcoming game, especially if the actors themselves lend their voices to the project.
