Activision confirms Treyarch will develop next Call of Duty game

Activision has confirmed Treyarch will develop the next Call of Duty game, ahead of its expected release later this year.

2015's Call of Duty game will be developed by Treyarch, the creative team behind Call of Duty 3, Call of Duty: World at War and the pair of games Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.

Activision cycles through a trio of developers for its Call of Duty franchise, allowing the publisher to release a Call of Duty title annually.

This year, we're going to be treated to a COD title from Treyarch. The 2014 Call of Duty entry was developed for the first time by Sledgehammer Games, which brought us the excellent Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

Activision confirmed Treyarch would be developing this year's Call of Duty during its Q4 earnings' call. The 2015 entry has been in development for three years with Treyarch - a development time that has been extended thanks to Activision's addition of Sledgehammer game to the Call of Duty development rota, which use to only consist of Treyarch and Infinity Ward.

Neither Treyarch nor Activision have offered any details on the yet to be revealed title, apart from the fact Activision stated the game has a "top team" working on it.

But several sources have suggested the game could well be a sequel to Call of Duty: World at War.

That's partly down to Treyarch posting the following quote on its Facebook page late last year:

"December 7, 1941... a date that will live in infamy." - Frankline Delano Roosevelt.

That date is the date on which the Imperial Japanese Navy attacked the US Pearl Harbour naval base. This is directly in the World at War timeline, which gave gamers hope a World at War 2 game was in the pipelline.

However, the Treyarch social media team is prone to dropping an American history quote or photo into a post every now and then. So it may just be a big coincidence or false hope talking.

We'll keep you posted as and when we hear more about the next Call of Duty game.

I would love to get back into CoD series ... but .. bring back our dedicated servers for ranked gameplay! The PC community is pretty damn tired of hackers and cheaters in all the latest titles where matchmaking p2p is the way to go!
I can only speak for myself and the ppl I know, and we only want to get back the ability to control the servers, and be able to catch and ban the hackers and cheaters. Don't have a problem renting a server from a good host!
Matchmaking is something the console players can have for themself. I can't remember seeing a single post in the PC community where players actually loved the p2p, with it's bad lag, poor connections, hacks and cheats, and where nothing is done to prevent all this use of hacks.
World at War was great. Love to see a sequel to this one. So much better to keep the weapons, attachments and perks toned down instead of all these new futuristic weapons that have been surfaced in Ghost and Advanced Warfare.
