Acer has announced the UK availability of the latest in its TravelMate range of portable business notebooks, describing the 8481 as “a true road warrior.”
The 14in TravelMate 8481 follows on from the 15.6in Aspire TravelMate 5760 which was launched last month and features pretty similar specs and security features but in a slimmed down chassis. The 8481 weighs in at just 1.5kg and is uniformly 22mm thick. The laptop is built using a magnesium-aluminium alloy to uniformly distribute all external forces and withstand extreme pressure.
Inside you will find the latest Intel Core i3, i5 or i7 processors but one of the key features of this new laptop is the combination of a 320 HDD and a 64GB SSD to help you fast boot the OS and your applications. You can also configure your system with up to 8GB DDR3 RAM for even speedier computing.
Intel HD Graphics 3000 comes as standard, but for a few more pennies you can take advantage of Nvidia Optimus technology to boost your graphical capabilities. There is also a webcam, 1 x USB 3.0, 2 x USB 2.0, Gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi b/g/n and a multi-in-1 card reader.
The TravelMate 8481 also comes with a lot of security features to keep all those spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations top secret. As well as physical protection like DASP (Disk Anti-Shock Protection), which provides all around suspension of the hard disk, there is fingerprint technology to let you and you alone gain access to your laptop.
The TravelMate 8481 will be available at the end of August and will start out at £699 (excluding VAT).
