Acer is planning on bring out a new ultrabook which looks like a MacBook Air but comes with a price tag of just $800.
Ultrabooks, which are pitched as ultraportable laptops with a price under $1,000, were first introduced by Intel at Computex in May and since then we’ve seen Asus announce the UX21. Now Acer is preparing an ultrabook of its own, which seems to have taken a lot of design tips from Apple’s Air.
The 13.3in Acer Aspire 3951 is a 13mm thin laptop, which will feature second-generation Intel Core processors and an SSD to help it resume from sleep in just 1.7 seconds. The laptop is certainly a looker, clad in aluminium and featuring a chiclet keyboard and oversized clickpad. It looks very like the MacBook Airs to us and, in turn, to the Asus UX21.
According to Vietnamese website Sohoa, the Aspire 3951 will come with a low, low price tag of $800 which makes us wonder where Acer has managed to make the savings and whether it will result in a product lacking too many features for most users.
With Intel’s Developer Forum on the horizon next month, we imagine we will see quite a few more ultrabooks on show and hopefully we’ll get some more details about the Aspire 3951.
