IFA, Berlin: This
year’s IFA trade show in Germany
is turning into the year of the Ultrabook with Toshiba, Lenovo and now Acer all
joining the party.
The Acer Aspire S3 features a lot of the same specifications
and looks of it comrades but will be hoping its pricing, starting at €799 will
be enough to set it apart.
The Aspire S3 again uses the 13.3in form factor and although
it isn’t the “world’s lightest 13in platform” as the Toshiba Protégé Z830 claims, it
still weighs in at a none-too-heavy 1.3kg.
It measures 12.9mm thick and features a 1366 x 768
resolution display encased in a magnesium-aluminium alloy case, which seems to
be all the rage at the moment. Inside you’ll be able choose from a range of Core i3,
i5 or i7 Sandy Bridge processors and a number of SSD
The Acer Aspire S3 promises seven hours battery life and
comes with a cooling system to help prevent you scalding yourself on the
palmrest, trackpad or your lap while resting the Ultrabook there.
Acer is crowing about a 1.5 second “instant on” from sleep
and being able to connect to the internet in just 2.5 seconds.
The Aspire S3 will be coming later this month with pricing
ranging from €799 to €1199, depending on your configuration.
Our man on the ground, Andrew Williams, will be along very
soon with a hands-on preview of the Acer Ultrabook, so be sure to check back
for his thoughtful and deep insights.
