Acer Iconia A3 budget 10-inch tablet announced
Acer has taken the wraps off a new budget 10.1-inch tablet, the Acer Iconia A3, which will be on display at IFA in Berlin.
The Acer Iconia A3 has specs that won’t exactly make the iPad 4 blush, but an extremely low price that might.
Featuring a fairly unremarkable 10.1-inch 1,280 x 800 display (a similar resolution to the iPad 2), we’re not talking about a super-sharp HD screen here. Its 1.2 GHz quad-core processor (believed to be from Mediatek), too, is a relatively humble component.
A 5-megapixel camera and a choice of 16GB or 32GB of internal storage round out the package, though we should also mention the welcome presence of a microSD slot for memory expansion purposes.
The Acer Iconia A3 runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, which isn’t the very latest version of Google’s mobile OS, but it’s recent enough. One interesting software feature here is Intellispin, which promises to read your tablet’s orientation even when it’s laying down flat.
But as mentioned at the outset, the best thing about this modest 10.1-inch tablet is its price. At €249 (around £211) for the Wi-Fi model, it promises to be one of the cheaper full-size Android tablets from an established brand on the market. The 3G version will cost €299.
The Wi-Fi version of the Acer Iconia A3 will be coming to Europe in October, with a 3G model set to follow some time after. It’ll be on display at the IFA show in Berlin from September 6 to September 11.
