Google reveals that the 11.6-inch laptop will cost a mere $199

The new Acer Chromebook C7 will launch in the US today, priced at just $199.

Google revealed that the Chromebook C7 would be available from today – and that it will be the cheapest model in the current range, slotting in below the $249 Samsung model revealed last month.

The Acer Chromebook C7 features the Sandy Bridge-based 1.1GHz dual-core Intel Celeron 847 processor, which should handle most basic tasks fairly easily. Its on-board GPU can decode 1080p video, for instance.

There’s an 11.6-inch screen with 1366 x 768 resolution, 100GB of free Google Drive cloud storage, a battery that delivers up to 3.5 hours of use, dual band Wi-Fi, HD webcam with 1.3MP sensor, three USB 2.0 ports, an HDMI output and a VGA output. The Chromebook C7 weigh 1.4kg and is an inch thick.

Like other Chrome-equipped laptops, it runs Google’s own OS, tailored to basic tasks. Google apps are built-in, updates are automatically downloaded and everything you do is saved automatically to the cloud.

Google has yet to reveal UK pricing for the Acer Chromebook C7, but it will be available soon via Google Play, Amazon, Currys and PC World. Expect to pay a little more than a conversion of the US price, however: the $249 Samsung Chromebook costs £229 in British stores.
