Acer has officially unveiled the world’s first 15.6-inch Chromebook in the form of the aptly named Acer Chromebook 15.

With past Chromebooks having concentrated primarily on the 13-inch form factor, Acer’s new oversized offering marks a new era in the Google OS powered PC space – introducing 27 per cent more on-screen real estate.

Holding the mantle to a fleet of firsts, the Chromebook 15 is also Acer’s first Chromebook to come packing Intel’s latest 5th Generation Intel Core i3 processor.

“The Acer Chromebook 15 is a true powerhouse – it provides fast mobile performance and a large display to help customers accomplish more every day,” said John Miedema, Director of Product Marketing at Acer Europe.

He added: “Acer has been a leader in the Chromebook market, from providing the latest in technology and trailblazing battery life to designing new form factors. We’re driving the category forward again with the world’s first 15.6-inch display Chromebook, the Acer Chromebook 15.

Set to be offered in a number of configurations, the Chromebook 15 will be available with 2GB or 4GB of RAM and either a 16GB or 32GB SSD.

There will also be a pair of screen options, with a Full HD model available alongside a more affordable 1366 x 768 pixel.

Despite the laptop’s new size, added bulk isn’t an issue. The Chromebook 15 lines up at just 2.2kg in weight and 24.2 mm thick.

Although an exact release date and pricing is still unclear for the Chromebook 15, Acer has confirmed further models are on their way this month.

As well as introducing a new line of 15.6-inch Chromebooks, Acer has updated its 13-inch offerings, bestowing some lines with touchscreen panels.
