Acer C720 Chromebook announced with budget sub-£200 price tag

Acer has expanded its range of Google powered laptops, with the Acer C720 Chromebook officially unveiled as a budget offering with a sub-£200 price tag.

Like the Acer C710 Chromebook before it, the Acer C720 Chromebook has Google’s Chrome operating system at its core, which benefits from automatic updates. Improving on its predecessor, the Acer C720 boasts a lightweight design, a full 30 per cent skinner than past models.

The Acer C720 is a significant step forward for our highly-acclaimed Acer Chromebook line, as it delivers speedy performance, quick boot times, a matte anti-glare display and a slimmer design that is portable enough for anywhere use,” John Miedema, Director of Product Marketing for Acer Europe said.

He added: “These key advances allow families and students to continue collaborating, learning and playing in exciting ways, all while staying secure since Chrome OS includes multiple layers of protection from online threats.”

Acer C720 Chromebook Features

Combining with the Chrome OS heart of the device, the Acer C720 Chromebook’s specs sheet looks set to offer strong performance options for the price, with an Intel Celeron 2955U processor combining with a 16GB Solid State Drive. This combination allows the Acer C720 Chromebook to record boot up times of less than seven seconds. What’s more, waking from sleep mode is near instantaneous.

With the Google themed laptop bringing with it a two year 100GB Google Drive cloud storage allowance, the Acer C720 features list is further bolstered by 4GB of DDR3L RAM.

Lining up at just 19.05mm thick and 1.3kg in weight, the Acer C720 Chromebook has data encryption and verified boot to protect it against online threats, malware and viruses. Benefitting from an 8.5 hour battery life, the laptop’s connectivity options include a single USB 3.0 port alongside a lone USB 2.0 connection and the usual Wi-Fi options.

Rounding off the device’s specs sheet, the Acer C720 Chromebook’s screen is an 11.6-inch offering with a 1366 x 768 pixel resolution and an anti-glare coating.

Acer C720 Chromebook Release Date and Price
With the Acer C720 release date having been set for early November, the Acer C720 Chromebook price will see the laptop retail for £199.99 from Currys and PC World.
