Acer Aspire Switch 10 offers a cheap Windows laptop-tablet hybrid

Acer has announced the Aspire Switch 10, a convertible tablet-laptop hybrid with four different stand positions.

Rather than a now-traditional ‘2-in-1’ device, the Acer Aspire Switch 10 likes to think of itself as a 4-in-1 hybrid.

In essence it’s a tablet with a detachable keyboard, but the tablet element can be inserted both sides, making the keyboard act as a handy stand if needed.

The other three arrangement are laptop style, the tablet on its own and with the keyboard attached to the back of the screen.

Aside from the hinge, it’s a relatively conventional tablet-laptop. It runs Windows 8.1 and has a 10-inch IPS screen. Acer claims the Aspire Switch 10 offers zero air gap tech, which should help improve display contrast.

To improve its media capabilities there are dual stereo speakers on the Switch 10. Most tablets still rely on rear or side-firing speakers.

The Switch 10 uses a relatively low-power Intel Atom processor, making it limited as an all-out laptop-replacer, but this will also help to keep the price down and battery life up. It already has a few rivals, including the highly-rated Asus Transformer Book T100.

An Acer spokesperson suggested the Acer Switch 10 will sell for around £299 in the UK, although exact release date details are not yet available.
