Acer announces Chromebase 24 all-in-one, updates Chromebook

Google’s Chrome OS is finally starting to gain some traction and Acer is reaffirming its commitment to the platform.

The company announced a new Chrome OS-based device at this week’s CES event, as well a refresh of its Chromebook.

A new all-in-one desktop computer, the Chromebase 24, will be the first Chromebase to use Intel Core processors.

It will feature a 23.8-inch 1080p display, 8GB of RAM, 802.11a/c Wif-Fi, and an HD webcam.

No pricing details have yet been released but the new all-in-one will come with the option to upgrade to a touchscreen version.

Other features include a 23.8-inch 1,920 x 1,080 display and four built-in microphones.

Acer also announced a refreshed version of its Chromebook 11 laptop, featuring a 1,366 x 768 11.6-inch display, an Intel Celeron processor, 2 or 4GB of RAM, and either a 16 or 32GB SSD.

The new specs certainly aren’t awe-inspiring, but the Chromebooks are known more for their durability rather than blistering speed.

Acer says the laptop can take up to 132 pounds (59kg) of pressure and will withstand falls of up to two feet.

The Chromebook will be on sale in North America in February for $179.99 (£122).

Elsewhere the company announced three new Windows laptops: the Aspire Switch 12S 2-in-1, the TravelMate P648, and the Aspire V Nitro with RealSense 3D camera.
