Abit µGuru

Abit has put together a neat set of utilities to ship with its new motherboards.

Abit has announced a set of six new software applications under the common name of µGuru, for its latest range of motherboards.

Some of these applications are not what you’d call ground breaking, but they are still very useful. The automated Windows based BIOS flash utility (FlashMenu Guru) is a good addition. It’s about time, as this is something you’ll find from most other motherboard manufacturers today.

The Hardware Guru gives you an overview of temperatures, fan speeds and voltages in your PC. Again, not cutting edge, but yet another feature you would expect to see these days.

More interesting is the OC Guru which adds Windows based overclocking features allowing you to change both the bus speed of the processor as well as the voltage of the CPU, memory and AGP slot. The OC Guru allows you to save three different configurations that you can instantly choose between as required.

Next up is the Fan EQ Guru which will dynamically change the CPU fan speed depending on how hot your PC gets. This is something that AOpen has already done, but Abit has taken this to the next level by adding support for the chipset fan as well as the case fans.

Abit has also developed its own equalizer application, which is named Audio Guru.

The next feature however is something that should be a real hit – the Black Box Guru. A black box is a device fitted to aeroplanes that records information in case of an emergency or accident allowing the airline to try to figure out what went wrong. The Black Box Guru is something very similar that allows you to run a diagnostic program on your PC and then forward the information to Abit’s engineers who then can look into the problem you’re having. All being well, Abit should come back to you with a solution that solves the problem.

Abit’s µGuru may not be as revolutionary as the press release tries to convince you, but it is a good set of features that has been missing from Abit’s portfolio. This addition will make it a lot easier for novice users to get to grips with all the advanced features on offer from Abit
