Ability to stream PC games to Xbox One in the works at Microsoft

Microsoft has revealed that it is working on a way to stream PC games to the Xbox One console.

Windows 10 has commenced its rollout today, and one of its features is to permit Xbox One games to be streamed to PC.

Now Microsoft’s head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, has told The Verge that the company is working on making the process work the other way.

“We understand if you’re going to go PC to Xbox, we need to get keyboard and mouse working completely so you could play those games,” he said. “In terms of where we want to go with our platform, those are absolutely in scope of things that we want to do.”

Apparently, the process of streaming PC content to Xbox One is a lot more challenging than streaming Xbox One content to PC. That’s because the Xbox One is a known quantity in terms of technical specifications, so the encoding process is a lot more predictable.

With PCs, of course, hardware specifications and thus the level of visual complexity in games varies wildly.

As such, Spencer revealed that there was no timeline in place to get this feature running. However, Windows 10’s tight integration of the Xbox brand through the Xbox app shows that such a platform partnership is here for the long haul.
