Xperia X2 Specs & Multiple Images Leak

The Sony Xperia X1 was a love it/hate it smartphone. I wasn't a fan by any means but for those who were this should once again get the juices flowing...

Specifications and multiple images from different sources have slipped out across the web this week showing us that not only is the 'Xperia X2' under development, it's a long way down the road.

Between them jjlifeblog and fanklub.se have show black and silver versions of the much anticipated successor within days of one another virtually nailing down the angular design as legit. Furthermore we hear impressive specs are on the way including HSDPA, an 8.1MP camera with autofocus, a 3.5in WVGA OLED touchscreen display, WiFi, aGPS, an accelerometer and faster (though unspecified) CPU.

Interestingly, we also see Windows Mobile 6.5 is aboard the X2 which could make it one of the first handsets onto the market with the upgraded Microsoft OS. On the other hand we have previously been told WM6.5 won't debut until Q4 so it may be the wait for the X2 is longer than these pictures would suggest.

Just last month no less than Sony Ericsson CEO Hideki (Dick) Komiyama labelled the Xperia X1 as a failure but with its extra horsepower the X2 could be well positioned to make a better stab of things...

This phone looks hideous, I hope, for their sake, this isn't what it actually looks like.

Looks like it has a flushed screen which is good to see.

I also hope they see sense and stick Android on it rather than WM (this is coming from a WM user).

I do think it looks rather attractive in white however I have long since given up on Sony Ericcson- and i once considered myself a long-term devotee.

I expect is this to be delayed quite heavily and then undoubtably be released as a WM6.1 handset where WM6.5 is the standard and so overlooked (regardless of whether it may be upgraded to 6.5 or not).

i dont hate WM so much but i do not think it should be the selling point of a phone aimed for mainstream appeal- particulary from Sony Ericsson.

the hardware is nice and spanky but it will take more than high end hardware to sell a product- especially at the price the X1 launched at. ofc there is Android which would have been a nice option (especially on the white/silver handset). Seems SE could do better working on the proposed Android handsets through another range (A Series?) rather than working on a handset which will be deemed "average" when it eventually comes out

It looks great, and the keyboard design is the best in my opinion, i hope they put Android rather then WM.

This thing is awful-looking. The X1 was much more attractive. This surely has to be a functional prototype rather than a final design. Otherwise this will attract only geeks. The X1 managed to attract a bit wider audience than that and the X2 should be building forward from there, not backward.

On the plus side hopefully this one is properly built and not prone to case cracking like the X1.

The fact that it has WM6.5 on it means absolutely nothing. I've been running WM6.5 on the variety of devices I have scattered about my desk for months, and they're all a higher build number than that. Also, there have been official (MS) demos of WM6.5 running on the Touch Diamond, and the emulator images have been released.
