The Sony Xperia X1 was a love it/hate it smartphone. I wasn't a fan by any means but for those who were this should once again get the juices flowing...
Specifications and multiple images from different sources have slipped out across the web this week showing us that not only is the 'Xperia X2' under development, it's a long way down the road.
Between them jjlifeblog and fanklub.se have show black and silver versions of the much anticipated successor within days of one another virtually nailing down the angular design as legit. Furthermore we hear impressive specs are on the way including HSDPA, an 8.1MP camera with autofocus, a 3.5in WVGA OLED touchscreen display, WiFi, aGPS, an accelerometer and faster (though unspecified) CPU.
Interestingly, we also see Windows Mobile 6.5 is aboard the X2 which could make it one of the first handsets onto the market with the upgraded Microsoft OS. On the other hand we have previously been told WM6.5 won't debut until Q4 so it may be the wait for the X2 is longer than these pictures would suggest.
Just last month no less than Sony Ericsson CEO Hideki (Dick) Komiyama labelled the Xperia X1 as a failure but with its extra horsepower the X2 could be well positioned to make a better stab of things...
