Xbox 360 Elite Priced Amid Premium And Core Price Drops

Those of you who have been waiting for an official price to be set against the Xbox 360 Elite model then you'll be pleased to know us how deep into your bank accounts you'll be digging come Friday. The 120GB, black, HDMI fitted beast will set you back a quite reasonable £299.99, a mere £20 more than the current Premium package.

Not only that, the Premium and Core models are getting their prices slashed to £249.99 and £179.99 respectively or, to put it another way, you can now pick up a (basic) Xbox for the price of a Wii. Of course the latter comes with a free game (Wii sports) and built-in wireless for that price, but nonetheless the move is certainly bold on Microsoft's part. Price was one of the major selling points that the Wii had going for it and you can't really argue against the fact that the Xbox 360 packs in a boatload of technology for the money.

Even better, the Elite launch coincides with the UK launch of Bioshock, a game many of us here in the TrustedReviews and Bit-Tech offices are already calling Game of the Year 2007 and which I myself have described as the best game since Half Life 2.

Of course if you don't want the larger hard drive or black finish (which does look a lot better) of the Elite, then you may actually be better off trying your luck finding an HDMI fitted Premium, if that's the feature you're after. Moreover, if you want to avoid the Red Ring of Death that has plagued so many owners then you may be better off waiting until 65nm parts start to hit the marketplace at an as-yet undisclosed time.
