Windows 7 Interface Will 'Blow Away' Multi-touch

While I suggest everyone take any future looking statements from Microsoft with a ladle of salt, this little sound bite tickled my curiosity...

Following the announcement of Dell's Latitude XT Tablet which proposes multi-touch-esque features without actually implementing them at this stage, Microsoft Windows 7 test engineer Hilton Locke has stoked fires on his blog:

"I will say that if you are impressed by the "touch features" in the iPhone, you'll be blown away by what's coming in Windows 7. Now if only we could convince more OEMs that Windows Touch Technology is going to drive their sales."

It's hard to sound embittered and like you're blowing your own trumpet simultaneously but Hilton has pulled it off here. Certainly with its Surface technology (which MS sadly decided to put into a big-ass table - above - rather than a mobile phone or MP3 player) we know the company is capable of matching the best technology of 2007. Given its history of OS delays however when it delivers on this promise is another matter entirely.

Enough waffling Microsoft, let's see this tech in your next generation Zunes. You've talked the talk, now - as the saying goes - get off your asses...

PS Thanks for the wonderful comment from reader Simon: "In essence what is being said is 'If you like what Apple did 11 months ago, you'll love what we'll produce in three years time!"

Enough said.
