Widget's iPod Headphones

iPods rule the music world. It’s a fact and it’s not changing anytime soon. Millions of you out there have got one, but why pay a small fortune for something and then continue to use the same dreadful earphones? I know, it’s because they’re white so they match and we’re all slaves to fashion. Well, we Brits may have the answer.

Launched by a company called Widget (yes, like the thingies in beer and the new apps in Apple’s Tiger OS), Etymotic's ER-6i earphones may just be a higher end alternative.

Like most of the best earphones out there the ER-6i’s are isolators, i.e. they mute the noise of the outside world (think stuffing your fingers in your ears and your fingertips having speakers on the end).

Frequency response on these babies is an impressive 20Hz to 16KHz, and they can belt out 120dB SPL. In the box, apart from the earphones themselves, you also get a five foot cord with 3.5mm stereo plug, foam ear tips, a shirt clip, two replacement filters and a carrying pouch.

It is also worth pointing out that the ER-6i’s will work with any music player with a standard earphone socket, so if you want to plug them into an old cassette walkman and pretend you have an iPod feel free. We’d advise against it though, for self image’s sake.

The new ER-6i’s will set you back a not insubstantial £99.99 including VAT, but if you’re in the market for an upgrade they are hot to trot at widget’s site now.

Note
Widget is the kindly disty which brought the Etymotic earphones across the Pacific, not the makers (which is obviously Etymotic and it is a Yank firm). Sorry if I was a little ambiguous (thanks for pointing that out Marc).

Besides, everyone knows we Brits don't actually build anything ourselves anymore (just look at Rover), but I'll take any opportunity I can get to indulge myself in some wild jingoism!
