Vonage Touts World's Smallest Phone

Ever wanted a phone no bigger than a memory key? No, obviously not – how would you talk into it…?! That is unless the ‘phone’ is really a memory key providing a PC with VoIP functionality…. ahhhhh.

So now the ‘V-Phone’s’ myth now broken let’s take a look at what you actually get in your 78 x 21.5 x 15 millimetres and 18 grams.

Basically what we have here is a 250MB memory key plus 2.5mm jack with Vonage’s VoIP Talk software pre-loaded meaning it doesn’t have to be installed on your PC. All user contacts and call records are stored on the key and it comes bundled with a 2.5mm stereo earpiece microphone for just £19.99.

Of course, the big question here is whether the V-Phone is worth this relatively low cost when you can buy a 1GB U3 memory key for roughly the same price and use the free U3 version of Skype in the same way. With U3 you can also add web browsing (via U3 Firefox), instant messaging (via U3 Trillian), email (via U3 Thunderbird), office (via U3 Open Office) and much more at the same time…

That said, if you do go for the V-Phone Vonage offers a £7.99 per month package which provides unlimited UK and Ireland calls and adds more premium functionality like caller display, call waiting, call forwarding, voicemail, three way calling and 999/112 emergency services at no extra charge.

The V-Phone is available now and is compatible with Windows 98SE, ME, 2000 and XP but not yet with Apple Macs or Linux. So V-Phone or U3? The choice, as ever, is yours.
