Vista SP2 Official - Fixes & Features Revealed

No sooner are the Vista SP2 rumours out the door than Microsoft is owning up and making things official...

Consequently we now have an extensive list of the new features and patches scheduled for the troubled OS's second major update and while not overly thrilling if they can prove as beneficial to the platform as a whole compared to SP1 then we should be laughing.

Highlights include integrated Hyper-V hypervisor, Bluetooth 2.1 support, native Blu-ray burning, VIA 64bit CPU security support, Windows Connect Now (WCN) WiFi configuring, reduced sidebar resource hogging and the addition of Windows Search 4, Microsoft's latest indexer which promises improved relevancy in search, broader indexing and Group policy integration.

As I said, it isn't the most jaw dropping of lists but Microsoft does also promise a great many bug fixes, performance tweaks, better overall system optimisation and increased stability. All of which suggests that while the company hardly covered itself in glory with Vista's release it has shown the commitment to keep plugging away slowly but surely ensuring it isn't the dog it once was.

Nope, I'm unlikely to ever really sing Vista's praises (my hopes are firmly with Windows 7) but at least the hatred has gone...
