VisionRacer lets you be F1 driver in your living room

Anything that makes gaming more immersive has got to be a good thing, right?

Well, we've certainly seen our share of what seemed like good ideas that never made it in the market, but something tells me VRI's VisionRacer VR3 isn't going to suffer from a lack of takers. It's essentially taking the 'gamer chair' to a whole new level, and in a very specific direction: racing.

At its most basic, the VR3 Rig carries an MSRP of £699, which gets you the main body consisting of a stainless steel chassis, wheel-mount and fully adjustable racing seat, which from personal experience I can tell you is very comfortable.

If you want to go take things to the next level, you'll need to add the £69 VR3 Gearshift Mount and £99 VR3 LCD Stand, which places an LCD monitor of up to 26in at 'windscreen level'.

Though theoretically the VisionRacer VR3 can be used with any console or PC steering wheel set, VisionRacer has partnered with Logitech, whose G25 Racing Wheel (£279.99) provides simulator-grade force feedback, a six-speed gearshift, three metal pedals and steel-frame leather-wrapped wheel.

If you don't want to bother putting things together yourself, VisionRacer will be offering a 'complete' system in the near future. This will comprise of the Rig with LCD Stand, Logitech Driving Force GT Wheel, Sony PlayStation 3 console, Logitech 2.1 speakers (with the sub-woofer mounted under the seat) and unspecified LCD monitor, all for a staggering £1,699.

However, as you might have gleaned from the lack of Gearshift Mount, this is not really as 'complete' as including Logitech's more advanced G25, which can be found online for around £160 rather than the £279 VisionRacer and Logitech are selling it for - besides which, any savvy gamer will just get their own console, monitor and speakers.

As far as the frame goes though, any racing fan who has the spare cash might want to be getting their card out about now…

Or you could just wait for our hands-on impressions coming soon!
