Virgin Launches Online and Mobile Media Player

Virgin Media has launched a beta version of its media player for desktop and mobile, dubbing it, Virgin Media Player.

While the Player is in beta, the first to be able to access the content will be Virgin Broadband XL TV customers who also take broadband from the company, by registering at www.virginmedia.com/player.

Virgin Mobile customers will also be able view one hour of Virgin Media Player content a day for no extra charge, via the Virgin Media Player portal.

Virgin said that it has hundreds of hours of content available as part of the beta trial, from stations such as ITV, LIVING, Disney, Cartoon Network Geographic and, following a new agreement with MTV Networks UK & Ireland, a selection of MTV, Comedy Central and Nickelodeon shows.

“We continue to explore innovative new ways to bring our customers’ favourite content to them and, with Virgin Media Player, we’re making sure they’re spoilt for choice.”

Sky already offers its viewers on demand content via Sky Player on the desktop and has a mobile TV app available for the iPhone and iPad.

Shame they charge £1 an hour for mobile viewing. Never mind if your of the fruit phone persuasion though...

Can I use Virgin Media Player on my iPhone or iPad?

Sorry! Since Flash isn't supported on the iPhone and iPad at the moment, Virgin Media Player won't work on them.
