Seesmic for Facebook may have been the first desktop client for the social networking supersite, but just 24 hours later sees the integration we've really been waiting for...
Inevitably coming from Seesmic's Twhirl rival TweetDeck, v0.24.1 of the software sees it take advantage of the newly Open Facebook API to meld status updates and tweets into a single offering.
In the words of its programmers themselves: "v0.24.1 includes the first elements of Facebook integration into TweetDeck. This integration consists of two elements. Firstly you can click on the Facebook icon at the top and, once you have signed into Facebook and given TweetDeck authorisation, this will add a new column full of each of your friends most recent status update which updates automatically once a minute. From here you can email the update out to anyone, tweet it out over twitter, view the users online status and if they are online right now click on their name (or the green online status indicator) to open Facebook chat right within TweetDeck."
I have to admit, for a first version - described as "very beta" - the integration is well done though it does offer one rather controversial aspect: the chance to retweet (RT) friend's Facebook status updates. After all, Facebook is a controlled two way environment where you control who can see what. Retweeting such potentially trusted announcements to hundreds of unchecked Twitter followers on the other hand is hilarious another ball game entirely and needs to be used responsibly.
With that in mind, who in my circa 600 Twitter followers want to know what Ed is "chastising" himself about in his latest Facebook update...? ;)
