Toshiba Details NB100 Netbook Offering

Toshiba Details Netbook Offering

I'll give you three guesses as to what the NB in Toshiba's newly-announced NB100 stands for. Yup, that's right: netbook. As if we didn't already have enough offerings in an already really crowded netbook market…

You can probably guess the specs without reading below, but for completeness sake they look as such:

  • 8.9in, 1,024 x 600 LED-backlit screen

  • 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU

  • Up to 1GB DDR2 RAM

  • Up to 120GB hard drive

  • Ethernet, 802.11 b/g WiFi, Bluetooth

  • Two USB 2.0 ports, VGA out

  • Windows XP or Ubuntu Linux

Those USB ports sport Toshibas Sleep-and-Charge ability, allowing connected devices to draw power even if the netbook is turned off. While useful, it's a feature that will need to be used sparingly as Toshiba reckons the NB100 will offer a little less than four hours of battery life (3hr47min to be precise) - although under what usage scenario that was achieved is anyone's guess.

Anyone else? Anyone?

Update - a couple of decent sized pics:

Another indeed, but there is no denying that toshiba are a big player in the notebook space, so you can see netbooks start to crop up more with business users.

This is getting quite boring. When you're this late to market compared to the other firms you would expect that they would do something to stand out and shout "buy me" in a crowded market but all very similar specs. Having said that from the photos it does look rather nice.

What will be interesting to see is that now almost all companies have/are preparing their own take on the netbook (or as i said above, following the others) is to see how resilient they are to competition forcing prices down and then logically how far down the prices can go before it becomes uneconomic (I'm assuming that the margins must be tight).

Can we start a rumour of the apple netmac please? Although knowing Mr Jobs et al it'll probably cost about &#163500....

Looks beautiful, I hope the gloss is functional though and not a fingerprint taking case and reflecting screen.

It's also nice to see another netbook using an 8.9" screen.

It's a shame about the battery life and the hard drive, but if Toshiba price this at around &#163240 they could have a winner on their hands.
