The World's Fastest 20in Widescreen TFT

I really must get round to upgrading my seven year old 19in CRT because TFTs are just great. They’re lighter, with a much smaller footprint and, personally, I find them far better to work on. In fact, their one problem has been when you get to 20 inches plus the response times go all to hell. Until now.

Unveiled by BenQ today is the world’s fastest 20in widescreen TFT. The FP202W sports a cracking 8ms response time which should make it a favourite with gaming junkies and cinephiles everywhere. A perky 600:1 contrast ratio back things up nicely and a native 1680 x 1050 resolution is heaven sent if you, like me, love to have two windows open side-by-side.

I’m a big fan of the styling too (being a groupie for a slim bezel) and it appears I’m not alone since the FP202W has won G-Mark’s 2005 Design Award. It’s not just a pretty face with a speed obsession though, since the monitor features BenQ’s own “Senseye” digital enhancement technology which automatically adjusts brightness and darkness levels, performs colour mapping procedures and reduces jagged edges on images. Since Senseye handles brightness and colour separately, it also allows users to adjust the colour settings without aberration.

As you would expect for a monitor of this level, both D-Sub and DVI-D dual inputs are available and a hotkey provides one touch switching between the two. It’s both Mac and PC compatible and can be wall mounted. RRP is £452 including VAT and it can be found smartening up shop shelves within the next month.

Random Fact: mistype BenQ as “BneQ” in Google and click on the first result for one of the strangest poems you’re ever likely to read. I quite like it, especially the part about the “Vegetable Avenger”…

Update: Got one in the labs right now ;)
