TX TX TX: It's All Vaio Fans Think About

If you’ve ever been into an airport exec lounge you’ll know that laptops are the new company car. Glances are cast left and right to see who has the best system and, in essence, it’s all rather silly. Still, if you are of the "Can’t Beat Em, Join Em persuasion" (and there’s nothing wrong with that… sheep*), the latest Vaio looks to be a knockout champ.

Called the TX, it is the latest evolution in Sony’s T Series. Built around a super skinny format factor (less than 1in thick), it weighs a mere 1.25Kg and looks to marry the portability of the X505 with the functionality of the T2. This is no mean feat, but looking at the specs, the TX appears to make a good fist of it.

The widescreen display is larger (11.1in) than both models, sports a higher resolution (1366 x 768) and claims to consume less power whilst being 30 per cent brighter (LED backlit verses CCLF).The Sonoma based Centrino platform matches the T2’s 1.2GHz Pentium M processor and a 60GB HDD is included as standard (with an 80GB option expected to follow next year). The Carbon Fibre Composite material which makes up the body is the same as that used in the X505, and Sony boasts the standard battery will last nine hours (though if it reaches six under MobileMark I’ll give it a big sloppy kiss).

Connectivity options are also greater than ever before since SD Cards finally get their own slot. This kind of sensible thinking continues to grey the company’s rep as the King of Proprietary and I’m beginning to think I may have to come up with another nickname (The Company Formerly Known as the King of Proprietary?). Elsewhere you’ll find the usual suspects: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, two USB2.0 ports, FireWire, Ethernet, Modem, headphones, Mic, VGA out, Cardbus slot and Memory Stick reader.

The TX struts into stores before the end of the month, and it should nicely inflate the egos of all owners. Prices start from £1,499 and raise to £1,699, depending on processor configuration. Rearrange the following words in a sentence: ONE WANT I! *Baaaaaaa

(Thanks to readers Jonathan and Petar for their eagle eyes on this. You rock, you really do)
