T-Mobile Vario IV Unveiled

T-Mobile's Vario smartphone line has been one of our favourites over the years at TrustedReviews and now the fourth instalment has been revealed.

Continuing its trend, the T-Mobile MDA Vario IV (we're working on a better pic!) will be based on an HTC handset - this time the 'Raphael'. Previously the original Vario was a rebranded HTC Wizard, the Vario II the HTC TyTN and the Vario III the HTC TyTN II. This time around however we are in for the biggest treat so far.

The Vario IV will hit virtually every power smartphone user for six with its full sliding Qwerty keypad with redesigned buttons, a VGA touchscreen display capable of operating in both landscape and portrait modes, 7.2Mbit HSDPA, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, a faster 528MHz CPU, doubled up 256MB RAM/512MB ROM, a microSD expansion slot, FM tuner, multimedia playback and a 3.2MP camera with front mounted VGAer for video calls. We're not finished there either since the latest Windows 6.1 OS will be at its heart along with an inbuilt GPS receiver. *Drool*

As with previous Varios, number IV won't be the most portable of handsets, but at 103 x 52 x 18mm and 158g it is actually the lightest of the series so far. Talk time is also excellent quoted at a hefty 300 minutes and standby a whopping 320 hours (likely with WiFi and Bluetooth switched off).

The Vario IV is scheduled to greet up towards the end of Q2 so we should be getting pricing fairly soon.

RIM, you better hurry up with the Bold...

Update: Helpful reader Vincent has contacted us to say T-Mobile UK quoted him Q3 and possibly as late as November for a Vario IV. Fingers' crossed the sales rep just didn't know what he was talking about, but prep yourself for a longer wait than anticipated.
