Swissbit, the manufacturers of the Victoronix Memory key has announced its new 1GB Micro DIMM.
Micro DIMMs are even smaller than the SO DIMMS used in most notebook computers and feature 172-pins rather than 200. They are apparently used in sub-notebooks due to there extra small size, though all the sub-notebooks we’ve seen have just used SO DIMMs.
The 1GB capacity is the highest yet achieved for a Micro DIMM. Swissbit claims that it has reached this capacity by using its expertise to mount 16 memory chips onto a single Printed Circuit Board (PCB). ‘Chip-on-Board’ and ‘Die-Stacking’ technology has been applied to ensure high reliability while temperatures have been optimised as a result of improved thermal distribution.
The new memory chip conforms to JEDEC standards, operates at 2.5 Volts and runs at PC2700 speeds. If you want to know more, you can visit the Swissbit web site at www.swissbit.co.uk.
