Sub £3 PAYG Motorola Mobile Launched

Credit crunch? Environment? Credit crunch? Environment?

Yes many have said our collective reduction in spending could be good for the health of this little wet ball with like to call Earth but for every holiday we postpone or home cooked lunch we make there are cash saving IT deals like this £2.88 Motorola mobile phone ready to swell our landfills.

Indeed while the urge to reference this cost and Motorola's recent offerings and draw a vitriolic conclusion is strong I shall resist and instead say this two-for-a-packet-of-fags handset is surprisingly functional. For your two hundred and eighty eight of your finest pence you'll get a 'W180' which offers a colour display (128 x 128 pixels), weighs only 88g, packs in an FM radio and, erm polyphonic ringtones. Luxuries like a camera, multimedia player and even MMS are off the menu so don't even joke about 3G, WiFi, GPS or a touchscreen...

...that comes next year when the recession really kicks in.

So if you need a mobile phones that's, well... a 'mobile.phone.' then here's your boy and in truth it's rather more appealing than some of the RAZRs I've seen down the years...

Is it just me, or does that phone make the perfect spare for those times you don't want to take a mobile that costs more than your laptop down your local?

@Ben: Like those nights out when you don't want to take your iPhone 3G, eh Gordon?

@Andy - I'm sure had you turned up you would've warned me ;)

and to think that about 10 companies and the suppliers are still taking a profit from this!!!

I always said that &#163500 phones, even with all the (usually, in real everyday use, poor) bells and whistles, were a complete rip off.

You can't tell me that some handsets (top end Nokia and SE, HTC etc...) have &#163450-&#163550 worth of extra gadgets / technology in them! (Rhetorical)

People, we're all being robbed blind, and need to take a stand :)

I just bought one of these and it's a little beauty!

Warning: The CarPhone WareHouse is the most useless company on Earth. The credit of &#16310 that comes with the phone can take from 2-5 working days to be credited to your account 'for security reason'. It took me 5 0870 & 0845 numbered calls and 4 transfers to get through to a 'human' was useless.

I feel sorry for anyone who gets a contact through them - stick to direct networks, I would!

The phone is well built, feels very solid and is smaller and lighter than my Nokia E51. The best ring tone isn't too offensive and I actually don't mind Motorola's predictive text input software, although it's not as fluid as T9.

But for &#1632.88 what more could you expect! A great spare phone :)

The link you provide doesn't take us to the phone. On further searching, it appears the phone is discontinued already. If somebody knows different I would appreciate a link.

@Alan - I was correct so can only presume it is already over or temporarily out of stock.

@Gordon...........update........popped into local CPW and had a look just in case and sure enough, they had some on the shelf so got one. Much easier than the net and 0870 numbers. Thanks for highlighting the offer on this site.
