Spore System Requirements Outed

Ah, Sporeā€¦ How you taunt me with your ever nearing release date! Eager as I'm sure we all are to jump into the action, I am equally sure many of you are awaiting the release of some system requirements to know if you can run it what hardware you will be buying in order to play Spore. Well folks, fret ye no longer because finally the system specs needed have been revealed and, my word, are they surprising.

Far from wanting a machine of Crysis-playing capability, Spore is set to be one of the most scalable games in a long time, no doubt a lesson learned by EA Maxis from creating The Sims franchise - if everyone's PC can run your game, you've got a better chance they will.

So, the requirements themselves:

Windows XP

*2.0 GHz P4 processor or equivalent

*512 MB RAM

*A 128 MB Video Card, with support for Pixel Shader 2.0

*At least 6 GB of hard drive space

Windows Vista

*2.0 GHz P4 processor or equivalent

*768 MB RAM

*A 128 MB Video Card, with support for Pixel Shader 2.0

*At least 6 GB of hard drive space

Mac OS X (Yes, there's a Mac version at launch!)

*Mac OS X 10.5.3 Leopard or higher

*Intel Core Duo Processor

*1024 MB RAM

*ATI X1600 or NVidia 7300 GT with 128 MB of Video RAM, or Intel Integrated GMA X3100

*At least 4.7GB of hard drive space for installation, plus additional space for creations.

In layman's terms, any PC or Mac purchased within the last year and a half is going to be able to run the game. That Spore will be playable on mere Intel integrated graphics bodes very well for the would-be laptop-gamer market. I can definitely see myself watching significantly fewer in-flight films come the 4th of September.

That's great news, even though higher specs wouldn't have been a problem. Oh I can't wait for this...

Great news indeed, though it was never going to need anything SUPER hefty. However, the best angle of these diet-specs is the ability to continue developing your little creature on your laptop when you're on the road.

Note - if you're stuck with Intel Integrated Graphics you will fail the Pixel Shader 2.0 requirement :(

I'd like the 10GHz octo-core system thanks!
