Sony Outs T707 Clamshell Using Sharapova

Hugo (wrongly) described the NC310 as looking "unerringly like a bar of soap". It's actually rather attractive (the flaw is its way overpriced at £399) but this looks like a bar of soap...

Heavily promoted by not-quite-as-good-as-we-all-thought-she-was-going-to-be tennis star Maria Sharapova, the T707 is a soap-tastic midrange flip handset with decent enough specs if a rather dated RAZR-ish inside.

The best bit is the 1.1in external OLED display to notify users of incoming calls and messages. Alerts can also be silenced by waving a hand over it - useful/dangerous with a morning alarm though Sony Ericsson's own Z555 did this more than a year ago.

Elsewhere it's all rather middling: 3G connectivity, a 2.2in QVGA display, 3.2MP camera minus flash, Bluetooth with A2DP, 100MB of native memory, FM radio and a why-oh-why-won't-you-drop-it-for-microSD-you-know-the-game-is-up M2 expansion slot. WiFi, GPS and the like are absent and it is something of a porker at 93 x 50 x 14mm. Still, 95g isn't going to split any tennis skirts and battery life at four hours (3G) talk time and up to 17 days on standby is perfectly fine.

Pricing and availability have yet to be announced (I'm thinking free on contract and circa May 2008) but all in all it's a perfectly ok chubby midrange handset. Which naturally prompted Maria to say:

"The T707 {bold from the release} is my ultimate new accessory. I am always on the go and I need a phone that is easy to use, and of course chic as well! I never miss a call with the eye-catching light effects and personalised pulsation settings and I love the fact that I can just wave my hand to mute a call using the gesture control. I can also use my practical and stylish Bluetooth Headset HBH-PV715 to take my calls, check my emails and blog to my website from the phone. It's great to have a phone that looks good but also lets me keep up-to-date with everything I need."

There you have it people, Maria's happy (as anyone woman who escapes years of excruciating Motorola sponsorship {I dare you to make it all the way through} should be). Now Maria, back to the courts to cement that World 30 ranking and Sony Ericsson, back to that CEO head hunt...

Gordon did Maria Sharapova knock you back when you asked her for a date? Lose you money on a tennis game you were betting on? Not really interested on your oddly slanted views of aforementioned tennis player.

Must admit, 4 grand slams, 1 major, and 19 singles titles, isn't exactly a poor show. Sure she's no Williams sister but then they're a breed apart.

@Matthew - I'm not interested in successful multi-millionaires cheapening themselves with cringe worthy paid sound bites such as: "I can also use my practical and stylish Bluetooth Headset HBH-PV715..." It's utterly crass.

PS - no-one knocks me back for a date ;)

@Gordon - Well as much as it pains me to concede your point Casanova;) I have to agree that sound bites do not come as cringe worthy as that. Don't worry about the dating scene though, there are plenty more fish in the sea:). Love the site by the way.

@Matthew - one day I'll tell you about my drinks with Anna Kournikova! Seriously ;)
