Sony G-series: Now With Drip Proofing

Hey, here's a unique idea - rather than constantly making a series of incremental and ultimately uninspiring updates to your product ranges, why not consider adding something new? It sounds crazy, but Sony's new G-series VAIOs are now doing just that. The party piece is the addition of drip-proofing to the machine's arsenal. As a rather clever touch, water is discharged through a 'pit' at the rear of the notebook and if the system decides there is too much liquid to handle it will automatically power off.

Core spec is still the same, so there is a 12.1in, 1,024 x 768 LED backlit screen. Processor choice is up from the current 1.33GHz Core Solo offering to either a Core 2 U7500 or U7600, although single core options will apparently still be available for the battery-life conscious. You'll also be packing 2GB RAM, Vista Business edition and perhaps most importantly a leather lid.

Hard drive options are also improved, with the choice of either 32GB, 48GB or 64GB solid state parts, as well as several larger capacity conventional drives. As would be expected, initial release will be Japan only, starting in October, with the inevitable spread of the update over here likely taking a few weeks.
