Sony Ericsson Unveils Xperia Play, Xperia Pro And Xperia Neo

UPDATE: 16/02/11 read our Sony Ericsson Xperia Play Hands On

Sony Ericsson has finally unveiled the Xperia Play (aka the PlayStation Phone) which we’ve been talking about for a long time now as well as revealing two further Xperia handsets – the Pro and the Neo.

There’s not much about the Xperia Play that we didn’t know prior to Sony Ericsson’s press conference in Barcelona this evening. For those not paying attention over the past few months, the Xperia Play is a smartphone with a slide-out PlayStation Certified game-pad including the PlayStation D-pad, four PlayStation buttons, two touchpads and shoulder buttons on the back. Under the hood the Play has a 1GHz Snapdragon processor and a Qualcomm Adreno 205 GPU to handle the gaming prowess of the handset.

The Play has a 4in 854 x 480 multi-touch LCD, will run Android 2.3 or Gingerbread, has a 5.1 megapixel camera, LED flash, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. What we didn’t know however was when we would get our hands on the Play and that was announced tonight with the handset shipping next month, which is good news for everyone looking to try out the games. All five of the UK’s major networks have confirmed they will be getting the Play once it ships.

The next Xperia model unveiled this evening was the Neo. It is a 3.7in device with a 1GHz Snapdragon powering Android Gingerbread. The display has a resolution of 854 x 480 and uses Sony's Bravia graphics engine. The Neo has an 8 megapixel rear-facing camera as well as a front-facing 2 megapixel camera for all your video-chatting. The phone weighs 126g, has memory of up to 320MB, microSD up to 32GB and can be got in a red, blue or silver.

The final model announced tonight was the Xperia Pro which is a 3.7in device with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. The Pro sports a 3.7in, 854 x 480 display (which again uses the company's Bravia graphics engine technology), runs on a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, and is sporting Sony Ericsson's customised build of Gingerbread. The phone has an 8 megapixel rear-facing camera with LED flash, 2 megapixel front facing camera, and will be available in silver, red, and black.

Pricing for all the models has yet to be released but we will be bringing you all the details as soon as we get them as well as our impressions of the handsets as we get a chance to play with them in Barcelona.
