Update: Read our Sony Bloggie Touch MHS-TS20K review
Sony today launched the latest version of its Bloggie pocket camcorder series adding a touchscreen, 12.8-megapixel camera and – most importantly – an option for a vibrant pink cover.
The new Bloggie Touch will be competing with quite a few other devices including the Cisco Flip, Memorex MyVideo, Samsung HMX-U10, Kodak Zi range and Playsport, Creative Vado HD and the Sanyo Xacti. Phew, that’s a lot of pocket camcorders.
The Bloggie Touch has a large 3in LCD touchscreen which allows you to flick through your stored videos and photos. The Touch shoots full HD 1920x1080 video, 360-degree videos as well as allowing users to take 12.8-megapixel still images.
There’s a new auto macro mode, which allows users to focus on objects as close as 10cm away. The 360 video feature allows for the capture of 360-degree panoramic videos though you do need to clip on a supplied adaptor to the lens to make use of this feature.
The Bloggie Touch allows up to four hours of HD movie shooting time (in 1280 x 720/30p mode) on its 8GB internal memory however continuous maximum shooting time is just shy of half an hour. As with most of these pocket camcorders sharing your photos and video on the web is pretty simple.
Bloggie Touch connects to your PC via a flip-out USB arm that also charges the camera’s battery and built-in sharing software launches automatically. A drag-and-drop system allows you to upload with minimum fuss to sites like YouTube, Facebook and Flickr.
The Bloggie Touch is available in a number of colours including TrustedReviews favourite – vibrant pink. The Bloggie Touch does seem to have a lot more to offer than some of its competitors but the lines between compact digital camera, smartphone and pocket camcorder seem to be blurring. The market for this type of device is sure to contract as smartphones continue to improve their video recording capabilities.
