Think your handset has worn pretty well over time? Well, it won't have anything on the Sonim XP1, so it has no chance against this...

The Sonim 'XP3' - so tough it jumps XP2 altogether - is the successor to the popular XP1 and claims to be the world's only "all weather" GSM mobile phone.

(Somehow) Taking things up a notch from the XP1, the XP3 is marketed as being more rugged and with greater ability to withstand shocks and drops than its predecessor. Sonim backs this up with some impressive stats too including the ability to be fully submerged for 30 minutes in one metre of water, an IP-57 endurance rating and a Mil-Spec rating of 810F against salt, fog humidity, transport and thermal shock. If you don't know these standards, chances are you don't need one.

Heck, even the keyboard buttons are tested to function beyond 500,000 pushes.

"When we launched the Sonim XP1 last year, it was with a clear goal in mind. We wanted to create phones for people who work and play in rugged environments." Plaschke continues: "For these people, having a phone is a tool, not a fashion accessory. They need a mobile handset to withstand some of nature's harshest conditions. The Sonim XP3 is capable of working at -20C or at +60C without breaking down."

A few more specs: you get 5.5 hours of talk time or up to nine days of standby plus a three year warranty and if you're wondering what the camera megapixel rating is, where's the GPS or 3G, touchscreen and WiFi... well, you just don't get it.

The Sonim XP3 goes on sale immediately for £245 sim free or from free on contract via Vodafone.
